Let’s get ready for The Rock to save the day (or at least his family) one more time.
The Hollywood Reporter rattled out the news that the natural disaster pic San Andreas has now had a sequel greenlit. Dwayne Johnson will come back for another go round and he won’t be the only one. Alexandra Daddario, Carla Gugino and Paul Giamatti will also be coming back.
Neil Widener and Gavin James have been given the task of writing this potential “masterpiece,” taking over for Carlton Cuse who wrote the first one. Brad Peyton will return to direct one more time.
THR didn’t have any specific plot details but did imply that the next film would be more global in scale:
Plot details for the new installment are being sheltered but the sequel is expanding the disaster locales by going global, focusing on the infamous Ring of Fire. The ring circles the Pacific Ocean with fault lines and volcanoes and according to scientists is home to about 90 percent of the worlds’ earthquakes.
There was no release date planned for the film, but seeing as Johnson has films like Baywatch (which will start filming this week), Rampage and Fast 8 on his plate for the immediate future, this earthquake may not start shaking multiplexes for a few years.
