Ronda Rousey Sets her Sights on a Nintendo Property

Last year popular video game company Nintendo proclaimed their intentions on possibly making some of their more popular properties into movies. Enough time has passed that a whole new generation hasn’t even heard of the abortion that was the Super Mario Bros live-action film so why not give it a shot?

It would seem current UFC fighter Ronda Rousey is a big fan of that. In fact while talking to Gamespot she even mentioned that she’d love to tackle one of Nintendo’s most beloved female icons – Samus Aran from Metroid:

I’ve always wanted to be Samus. That would be badass. I love how people found out later that it was a hot chick on the inside. And then most of the day you’re in a suit, so you can just hang out and eat donuts and be the star of Metroid. I hope they make a movie out of that.

I doubt all the physical action that would be called for would allow Rousey to just eat pastries all day long while getting into the big metal suit that Samus wears, but I’m not going to tell her that.

This isn’t the first major pop culture character Rousey has tried to tie herself to. She went on a tear trying to get fans to get behind her as Carol Danvers in Marvel Studio’s upcoming Captain Marvel film.

This isn’t a done deal though. Nintendo hasn’t mentioned anything about a possible Metroid film in the immediate future. There haven’t been any film ideas mentioned at all actually. This may be Rousey’s way of drumming up interest in the hopes that something might come of it.

Before I throw my support behind her I’d have to see how she can carry a film. Her supporting roles in Expendables 3 and Furious 7 don’t prove a whole lot to me. We’ll see how she does in the Road House remake before I’d get behind an idea like this.
