Finally, after months and months of searching and numerous names being mentioned, it looks like Marvel has finally cast their Iron Fist. Best known for playing Ser Loras Tyrell in Game of Thrones, it has been revealed today that Finn Jones will star as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist in the upcoming TV series from Marvel and Netflix.

The character will join Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Luke Cage (Mike Colter) as part of The Defenders miniseries after starring in his own show a year or two from now. Cage and Iron Fist are often known as the “Heroes for Hire” and I’d be willing to bet that we see Danny Rand by the end of Luke Cage season one.

A brief description of the character reads as follows: Otherwise known as Danny Rand, the supernaturally enhanced hero wields a mystical force known as the Iron Fist, which allows him to focus his chi and enhance his natural abilities to extraordinary levels. His speed, stamina, strength, agility and reflexes can all be intensified and he is also a master of various fighting styles and K’un Lun martial arts. Rand is described as handsome and sophisticated, but independent and somewhat of a loner. Scott Buck (Dexter, Six Feet Under) will serve as the showrunner and executive producer, so this one will hopefully start production by this summer.

The official synopsis released by Netflix for the show reads: “Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”

I had originally hoped that Marvel would cast an actor with some martial arts experience like Christian Howard but Jones definitely looks the part. Hopefully now with a star production will start this summer.
