The end of an era is upon us. Soon we’ll get the last appearance of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in FOX’s series of X-Men films. But the actor is looking to go out with a bang in Wolverine 3 and the cast list is starting to take shape.

Obviously Jackman will be there to pop the claws. Patrick Stewart is slated to reprise his role Professor X. Even Liev Schreiber, who played Sabretooth in the critical flop X-Men Origins: Wolverine has hinted at a comeback. And now it looks like the man villain may have been found.

Deadline is reporting that Narcos actor Boyd Holbrook is in talks to play the big bad in the tertiary solo flick of everyone’s favorite Canadian mutant. It’s being said that Holbrook will play an original character to the film and not one we’ve seen in comics before.

Holbrook currently stars on the Netflix original series as DEA Agent Steve Murphy. He’s also had roles in films like Jane Got A Gun and Gone Girl.

The third film, set to be directed by James Mangold, is rumored to adapt the popular Mark Millar / Steve McNiven storyline Old Man Logan. The story sees an aged Logan in a dystopian future where supervillains run the United States. He gets coerced into going on an adventure with another hero across the country for a huge payday that would square him away with his villainous landlords.

The only problem with this story is that it primarily deals with heroes currently under the control of Marvel Studios. The film could just replace a number of them with X-Men heroes and villains and you’d get a decent send off for the Canucklehead.

Wolverine 3, which is rumored to be carrying an R rating, is slated to begin shooting in May for a March 3, 2017 release date.
