When Marvel Studios and Sony came to the agreement to share Spider-Man a collective whoop went up in the fan community. Finally one of Marvel Comics’ flagship characters would be able to share the screen with his fellow superheroes. But then the question was raised – if Spidey can be in Marvel Studios film could those same characters venture into the Sony-produced solo films?

The answer ended up being that yes, they COULD. But now it was a question of WOULD they and if so WHEN.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige he pretty much confirmed that we would be getting that in the wall-crawler’s next cinematic exploit:

He is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth.

So once again it’s a very non-committal “Sure, why not” kind of answer. But add this onto the fact that Robert Downey, Jr. and Chris Evans both said they’d be heading back to Atlanta for some filming (and this after the fact that Captain America: Civil War had wrapped filming) and you’ve got a pretty good idea that the MCU will invade Sony’s Spidey-verse come next year.

I’m just excited to see Jon Watts tackle the webbed wonder. I really liked Cop Car and the trailer for his soon-to-be-released film Clown looks all sorts of wicked.

We’ll find out more as the rebooted Spider-Man film( starring Tom Holland as the titular hero) swings closer to production. The movie is set to hit theaters July 2, 2017.
