Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War

I know one of the characters I’m most excited to see in Captain America: Civil War is Black Panther. Even though my adoration of the King of Wakanda hasn’t been shared by most of my friends I stayed true and enjoyed the political intrigue mixed with superhero action that most writers tried to bring to the many series that were put out by Marvel Comics.

And now we finally have T’Challa and his feline alter ego making their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. Then we’ll see a solo movie based on the exploits of the Black Panther. But word going around is that the Black Panther’s first film won’t have to be the usual origin story.

Slashfilm recently asked Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige whether or not an origin story is even needed, after the groundwork gets laid in Civil War:

We can [move forward from here]. We can deal with the aftereffects of Captain America: Civil War and going back to Wakanda, and he’s dealing with a geopolitical landscape that’s completely different now. That’ll certainly set him off in his own movie.

So it sounds like Black Panther will hit the ground running when his film hits theaters.

In an interview with Collider, Feige was asked just how far along the script is and where director Ryan Coogler is in question to his involvement at the moment:

Very soon. We have a number of writers on it including Ryan Coogler, who is also directing, he’s working on the draft right now. Between now and the end of the summer there will be more casting announcements. We start filming at the very beginning of next year.

I like seeing that Black Panther is being taken this seriously and is being thought of as such a major player in the MCU.
