After much shuffling and hemming and hawing it is now official – Inhumans has been cancelled.
Marvel’s PR department announced late Friday that the Inhumans film that was originally announced back in 2014 will no longer be part of Phase Three and there is currently no plans in place to get the film off the ground in the early stages of Phase Four.
The movie was originally planned for November 2, 2018, in between the Avengers: Infinity War films. But Marvel Studios had to shuffle a lot of release dates when they announced the acquisition of Spider-Man to their roster as well as the Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp. The film was then pushed back to July 12, 2019. But now it’s off the schedule completely.
The Inhumans as characters have been the focus of the third season of the Marvel / ABC show Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and ever since then I know I’ve been wondering how much the show would reveal and how that would reconcile with a film that was still more than three years away. Well, it looks like that’s no longer a concern.
Marvel Studios does have three dates in 2020 set for the start of Phase Four but it doesn’t look like Inhumans is being targeted for any of those dates. If the film does get back on the schedule and gets a release date it won’t be until 2021 or even later.
