In his next effort to try and “Be Like Mike,” (because he’ll NEVER match Jordan’s on the court accomplishments) basketball superstar LeBron James will now officially star in a sequel to Space Jam for Warner Bros.
The film was originally announced a couple of years ago but was quickly shelved and left to collect dust. But the rumors started swirling again when the hoops star signed a TV and film deal with the studio last summer. Tack onto that his almost show-stealing performance in Trainwreck and fuel just gets added to the fire.
Now the film is in development and The Hollywood Reporter says that Justin Lin (of Fast and Furious 6 and this summer’s Star Trek Beyond) is being looked at to helm the project.
I was never really a big fan of the first film but I was aware of it. I just wasn’t the target audience apparently. And that audience is dwindling as the days go by. A lot of youngsters are less and less familiar with the original Looney Tunes cartoons and the nostalgic adults are becoming a bit too old to see a film like this without a kid tagging along with them.
Still, if Warner Bros can take the star power of James and combine it with some fun animation I can see the people coming out to give this new version a look.
This is still in the very early stages so a basic plot hasn’t even been nailed down yet. As soon as we hear more we’ll throw it up here on Indierevolver!
