One of the funnier post-credit scenes in a Marvel movie was Deadpool doing a great Ferris Beuller impression. He also managed to tease the possibility of having the character Cable in the sequel, saying that someone “big with a flat-top” hairstyle, like “Dolph Lundgren or Kiera Knightley” would be perfect.
Be careful what you wish for Ryan Reynolds!
At a recent stop by the Nerdist offices to promote Kindergarten Cop 2, the man who killed Apollo Creed in Rocky IV said that he wouldn’t be averse to playing the time-traveling mutant.
“I haven’t watched a lot of these superhero movies,” the actor admitted. But he did hear about the one with “the funny mask.” (And most likely how he got name-dropped in the end.)
“Isn’t there a character named Cable that’s coming? Like, he’s a big guy?…Well, I guess I could kick some butt doing that, I suppose. We’ll see.”
Thanks to friend Sylvester Stallone’s Expendables franchise, Lundgren has proven that he’s still got the action and comedic chops to cut it in Hollywood these days. I’m not against seeing him in a Deadpool sequel. I think he’d be a great straight man for Reynolds to play off of. And he’s got the right physical presence to be a big threat if need be.
FOX has two as-yet-titled superhero films set to come out in late 2017 and early 2018. Either one of those could be the eagerly anticipated Deadpool sequel. We’ll keep you updated as more concrete news becomes available.
