Deadpool proved that you don’t need to be a mainstream X-Men film to bring in audiences and FOX may have taken notice on that as an X-Force film may be closer to reality than we think.
While talking to Fandango, director Bryan Singer said that the studio is already big on the film getting made and Simon Kinberg (producer and screenwriter on the recent X-Men films) is already hard at work on the script.
The usual comic book lineup includes already introduced characters like Deadpool, Colossus and Psylocke. It’s unlikely that Wolverine will be showing up despite being a regular teammate as Hugh Jackman will be hanging up the claws after 2017’s Wolverine solo film.
But Singer has a plan for that already as he lobbied for X-23 (a female clone made from Wolverine’s DNA) to be in the film:
I have discussed that with the studio. I actually initially pitched the X-Force and the female.
That wouldn’t be too shabby of an idea as X-23 might be able to pick up the ball that Wolverine put down when Jackman retires from playing the character.
And much like how a Deadpool / X-Men crossover could happen if done the right way, Singer confirmed that a crossover between the two X-teams is very much a possibility:
But it has to be done right. Anytime you throw all these characters together to hit a start date, it can make a lot of money, but it can also be a clusterfuck. To me, it has to be done with a lot of care. These things can get overwhelming, and if a character doesn’t belong in a movie, don’t use him. If the tone can still maintain itself, I’m all for it. What I’m not for is throwing a bunch of characters together and hoping it works.
Until that day comes though we have X-Men: Apocalypse which comes out in theaters May 27.
