Anyone who has read my work this year may have seen a few pieces a wrote regarding Mark Osborne’s The Little Prince. The first time I saw a trailer was back in January when I got around to checking out Anomalisa (another great animated flick) and I was instantly transfixed by what I saw. Mid-March could not come soon enough.
Then, without warning, Paramount pulled the film from it’s schedule a week before it was supposed to hit theaters. No one knows why and the studio still hasn’t given an answer. But despite glowing reviews and a decent international box office the higher-ups pulled it and seemingly threw it to the side.
But Netflix jumped in and saved the day, nabbing the rights to the film and proclaiming that they would make an announcement regarding it’s release sometime soon.
Well soon is now as the streaming provider has given us a new trailer for Osborne’s adaptation of the 1943 novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. And not only did we get a trailer but it was also said that the film will arrive to stream AND be made available to select theaters on August 5!
This is great news and I couldn’t be more happy. This film looks amazing, blending current CG animation with beautiful stop-motion pieces. And the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Most times I’d say this might be overhype and I’m getting my hopes up but this looks like it could be the real deal.
So get ready because in a little over two months we’ll finally get to see The Little Prince. For now we’ve got the new trailer here for your viewing pleasure.
