The pulpit will not be left empty in 2017.

AMC has announced that their hit show Preacher will return for a second season in 2017. This news comes at the halfway point of it’s ten-episode freshman season.

They must be doing something right, because along with the renewal comes more episodes, as the show will go from ten to thirteen episodes in it’s sophomore session.

Charlie Collier, president of AMC, had some gracious words for the show:

Preacher is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season. What Sam [Catlin], Seth [Rogen], Evan [Goldberg] and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.

I’ve watched the first four epsiodes (I still need to catch up on the last one), but I’m digging it so far. It’s not a direct adaptation of the comic (which would be impossible to do and a huge mistake regardless) and I’m curious to see where they go. With teases of characters like Herr Starr and The Saint of Killers plus a total reworking of creepy villain Odin Quincannon, this show is blazing it’s own trail and seems to be creating an epic western tale all it’s own. Plus Ruth Negga is one of the most badass characters on TV today!

You can catch Preacher on AMC Sundays at 9pm
