After the exciting success of the Marvel / Netflix series Daredevil, all eyes are on the next series coming out of the chute to see if lightning might strike twice.
I’m a big fan of the comic book that inspired this next series. If adapted properly, AKA Jessica Jones should be awesome on the small screen. I think this longer format allowing the material enough time to flesh out a more nuanced story is definitely the right way to go with this character.
Now, thanks to an Amazon listing for a new tie-in companion book for the series, we have a newly updated breakdown of what to expect from the show.
“Ever since her short-lived stint as a Super Hero ended in tragedy, Jessica Jones has been rebuilding her personal life and career as a hot-tempered, sardonic, badass private detective in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Plagued by self-loathing, and a wicked case of PTSD, Jessica battles demons from within and without, using her extraordinary abilities as an unlikely champion for those in need… especially if they’re willing to cut her a cheque.”
Maybe she could start a PTSD support group with Tony Stark. This synopsis sounds very close to the 28 issue Marvel MAX series from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos that ran from 2001 to 2004.
With plot details being held under lock and key for now, it’s anyone’s guess as to how much of her past will be shown to let viewers know how she got to where she’s at. It’s a good guess that we’ll get a decent mix of flashback and current day, especially if they use the majority of the characters on the show as they were used in the comic book.
AKA Jessica Jones, starring Krysten Ritter as the titular PI, will debut on the streaming video service later this year.
