Better Call Saul is a rare type of show – a spinoff that is looking like it’s going to be just as good as the show it originated from, Breaking Bad.

But right from the onset, the one question that people wanted answered was when would we see Walter White and Jesse Pinkman cross paths with Saul Goodman. They don’t actually hire Saul until season 2 of BB and Saul takes place years before that particular season. So how would showrunner Vince Gilligan make it happen?

When talking to the New York Daily News, Gilligan talked about just how Walter White would fit into the show:

All of the wonderful characters who may eventually appear on Better Call Saul will appear when it is most organic and fitting to the storytelling of Better Caul Saul and also when we can work out scheduling issues with actors. I would love to see that personally.

He then went on to confirm that we wouldn’t be seeing the man behind Heisenberg in Season 2 of Better Call Saul, but that we shouldn’t rule out feeling Bryan Cranston’s presence on the show. “We are greedy because we would love to see Bryan direct an episode aside from acting in it at some point,” Vince Gilligan said.

I’d love to see Cranston directing an episode or two of Better Call Saul. I remember seeing his name in the credits as director of the first episode of the second season and being thoroughly impressed with how good it looked.

In any sense, I wouldn’t expect to see the meth making duo from Breaking Bad in Jimmy McGill’s neck of the woods anytime soon. Timeline-wise, it wouldn’t make sense. I could totally see Saul’s first meeting with them being the end to the series, though. It would be a fitting and poetic way to end one series and tie it into the other.
