Universal’s big plan of a shared universe with their classic monsters is going to get delayed a little bit, but it gets some major drawing power as a tradeoff.

The Mummy, the film that was supposed to jump start the big reboot of all the Universal Monsters, has been pushed back from March 2017 to June 9, 2017. This might be a sign that the studio has more faith in the film by putting it in the heart of Summer Blockbuster Season. But that’s not the biggest news.

Variety has confirmed that Tom Cruise, who has been rumored to be attached to this project for some time, has officially joined up. While he won’t be producing as everyone originally thought he will be heavily involved in the creative process.

Sofia Boutella, who broke out in last year’s hit action-spy flick Kingsman: The Secret Service, will help put a new twist on an old tale as she’ll be bandaged and bound as the titular monster instead of a male mummy.

Director Alex Kurtzman will take the helm for this film and spearhead the overall project that is reported to culminate in an Avengers-esque joining of forces with all the monsters.
