Brad Bird Talks ‘Incredibles 2’ and Directing a Star Wars Film!

With Tomorrowland just around the corner, director Brad Bird can now turn his attention to his next big project. The filmmaker did an interview with Collider recently and talked about what lies ahead.

Next on the docket is a sequel to his 2004 hit The Incredibles.

I loved the first film. It was one of the best takes on family and superpowers put up on the big screen – what the Fantastic Four movies should have been. The director said he has “a bunch of pages” already written up for the next installment.

“I had a lot of ideas for the original Incredibles that I didn’t get a chance to use, that I like,” Bird said. “I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit, and there wasn’t enough time in Incredibles. There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie.”

But he didn’t stop there. Bird also confirmed that he’d been in touch with LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy about playing in the Star Wars sandbox.

“I was particularly attracted to the idea of picking up [a film in the franchise], and J.J. [Abrams] got very excited about the notion of shaping the next trilogy, and that idea was interesting to me too,” Bird said. “But I’m writing [the Incredibles sequel], and I can’t think too much farther beyond that. I have other things I want to do as well.”

Brad Bird and Star Wars are like chocolate and peanut butter – two separate great tastes that are even greater together! I don’t care if it’s an Anthology film or one of the Episode installments, this needs to happen.

But first we need to get through Tomorrowland. I saw the six minute clip before an IMAX showing of Avengers: Age of Ultron and can truly say that Tomorrowland looks like a crazy, fun flick. I know I’ll be there to see it when it opens May 22.
