Even though Guillermo del Toro won’t be involved anymore, Warner Bros still wants to move forward with a Justice League Dark movie. And if Suicide Squad does well the studio may push this a little harder as that would show there is a market for the lesser known corners of the DC Universe on the silver screen.

Recently a couple of different news sites nabbed some unconfirmed rumors as to who may be up for what role in the supernatural comic book film, and I have to admit that these are some interesting choices.

Heroic Hollywood talked about the main villain, Anton Arcane. Word is that Ben Mendelsohn is currently circling that role. Mendelsohn has recently been rising in the ranks in Hollywood, with his highest profile role being in the currently filming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He also scored an Emmy nomination for his work in the Netflix series Bloodlines.

The only quibble is that Mendelsohn reportedly won’t sign until the film has a director sitting in the chair.

As far as the good guys go, Latino Review says that an eclectic mix of actors are being talked up.

Either Colin Farrell or Ewan McGregor could play John Constantine, the magician, con-man and occasional dabbler in the dark arts. WB is looking for a high profile name to really make the character their own (and probably make people forget about the cinematic bomb that starred Keanu Reeves).

Whoever doesn’t get that role will reportedly be offered the part of Jason Blood, the human component that houses the rhyming demon Etrigan.

Monica Bellucci is said to be in line for Madame Xanadu and original GdT choice Ron Perlman is supposedly Warner Bros’ top pick to play Swamp Thing. However it’s unknown as to which version of Swampy we’ll get – the scientist-turned-muck-monster or the more metaphysical avatar and protector of The Green (all plant life in the universe).

The only role not nailed down is Boston Brand, a.k.a. Deadman. Warner Bros is looking for a comedian to fill that role but names haven’t been forthcoming for that part yet.

If this is the cast that the studio can get I’d be very impressed. But the stars would really have to align for this to happen. Still, as far as fantasy casting goes (which this technically is at this point) you could do a whole lot worse.
