Darren Aronofsky is a special breed of filmmaker. His movies might not always appeal to the masses, but his films are always a spectacle to behold.
Jennifer Lawrence has been attached to his next project for a few months now, but the film is now starting to build some steam as Javier Bardem is in talks for the male lead.
Variety is reporting that Bardem is the frontrunner for the role, after original choice Idris Elba reportedly signed on the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower epic. Bardem himself just finished filming on the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film alongside Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush.
The story sounds as general as any story can sound: it follows “a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.” That could be a horror film or a romantic drama. But with Darren Aronofsky at the helm, we know it will definitely be something that will get people talking.
Despite earning critical success with films such as Pi, The Wrestler and Black Swan, the director has been laying low since Noah. He’s been keeping busy producing, but many were wondering when he’d return to the director’s chair.
The film is slated to begin shooting this spring with an eye on a 2017 release.
