It’s time to pull up to the line and make sure you’ve got a full tank, because the Fast and Furious franchise has just announced when fans will be able to see the “last” three films of the series.
The final trilogy of films will release every other year starting in 2017. Producer and star Vin Diesel made the announcement via his Instagram page. Fast 8 is already set for April 14, 2017. 9 will drop on April 19, 2019 and 10 will take the series over the finish line on April 2, 2021.
At this time we know nothing about the ninth and tenth installments. We don’t even know what the story will be for Fast 8. No stars have been announced, but it’s a safe bet that anyone who was involved in past films will be fair game for the next three.
Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray has been tapped to helm the eighth film in the franchise that started as a not very veiled knock-off of Point Break, but with cars instead of surfing.
This is a huge accomplishment for the saga. If it goes all the way to 2021 it will have ten films over the span of two decades time. It did have a rocky start with a couple of so-so sequels, but turned around with the fourth film, Fast & Furious, and hasn’t checked the rearview mirror since.
