The Russo Brothers Bringing ‘The Warriors’ to Play on Hulu….CAN YOU DIG IT?

Warriors

by: Marcus Rivera – Staff Writer

Let me start off by saying that I love The Warriors; it came out two years before I was born but I watched it as a child growing up in NYC (The Baseball Furies were the coolest in my eyes) and it is truly a movie that holds up well over time and multiple viewings. So I’m quite excited to see that Deadline is reporting that the directing duo of Joe & Anthony Russo (Captain America: Civil War) will oversee a modern retelling of the 1979 film for Paramount and Hulu.

The report also states that Frank Baldwin (The Racketeering, The Run) is currently on board as the writer. The new hour long drama promises to honor the original film while adding “It’s own unique brand of grit, pulp, sex and violence”. Currently there is no director attached but I would love to see Joe Carnahan (Smoking Aces) get a call. Back in 2005 the late (and great) Tony Scott had been attached to direct and modern day version that would have stripped out the colorful street gangs in favor of a more realistic take.

For those unfamiliar with the material, The Warriors began as a novel by Solomon Yurick that was then adapted by Walter Hill in 1979 for the big screen. The story centers on a gang (The Warriors) who must return to their home turf after they are implicated for the murder of a respected gang leader. Since the movie’s release in 1979, there have been several comic spinoffs from Dynamite and a 2005 video game from Rockstar Studios.

Sound off and let us know what you think of this re-imagining as a 1 hour drama.
