Jeff Bridges to Star in ‘The Emperor’s Children’ Written by Noah Baumbach and Directed by Lake Bell

The Dude himself (or His Dudeness or El Duderino if you’re not into that whole brevity thing) is set to star in Lake Bell’s upcoming film, The Emperor’s Children.

THR reports that the plot is “a quintessential New York narrative as it tells the abstruse life of a legendary journalist and liberal opinion-maker named Murray Thwaite, exposing the ambition and pride of his family and friends, and his entanglement with his daughter’s best friend, all in the days leading up to 9/11.”

Bridges will be playing Thwaite in Bell’s adaptation of the bestselling novel written by Claire Messud. The Emperor’s Children will be Bell’s first film since her excellent feature debut, In a World, in 2013.

It’s wise for Bridges to step away from the last couple Young Adult stinkers he’s released, The Giver and Seventh Son (and let’s pretend that R.I.P.D. never happened, while we’re at it.). The Emperor’s Children sounds like it is exactly the type of film Bridges needs to bounce back and reestablish himself.

What do you think? Does this sound like the type of role you’d most like to see Jeff Bridges in?
