The list of directors for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot is getting narrowed down even more. The original list had Jared Hess, Jonathan Levine, Ted Melfi, Jason Moore and Jon Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein.

Deadline has an updated list now. Apparently Hess and Moore are for all intents and purposes out of the running. Melfi (St. Vincent) and Levine (50/50) are apparently still the favorites. Daley and Goldstein (the upcoming Vacation film) are said to still be in the running as well.

Even though two names dropped off, a new name has cropped up. Jon Watts, director of the Sundance favorite Cop Car, has now shown up as a consideration.

This is an interesting mix of talent. Each director brings something just a little different. It’s a tough choice.

With the screen-tests for Peter Parker going on this past weekend, I’d expect a couple of major announcements to be made any day now. The next Spider-Man film from Sony will hit theaters July 28, 2017.
