Mad Max: Fury Road star, Tom Hardy, is set to play legendary gangster, Al Capone, in Josh Trank’s Fonzo according to Deadline Hollywood.
Fonzo will revolve around the later life of ruthless Chicago gangster, Al Capone. Capone ruled Chicago with malice through 1920’s and early 1930’s during the prohibition era taking many innocent lives through evil acts such as bombings. He was eventually taken down in 1931, and following a long trial was sentenced to 11 years in prison for tax evasion. Al Capone eventually died in 1947 aged 48, after numerous health conditions lead to a stroke.
The film is being written and directed by Chronicle creator, Josh Trank, and produced by Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder and Pulp Fiction producer, Lawrence Bender. Fonzo has begun pre-production and Bloom will take it to the AFM (American Film Market) to begin the selling process.
I’m not a huge fan of Josh Trank and his antics within the industry, though that’s not to say he isn’t talented, studio interference clearly played a heavy role in damaging his take on the Fantastic Four. I’m also a sucker for criminal history and the dramatic takes on these real life stories, plus Tom Hardy will absolutely nail this role!
