As tends to happen, two competing films based on the same material end up in development. This was the case with Jon Favreau and Andy Serkis, both making films based on the classic tale of The Jungle Book written by Rudyard Kipling.

Word recently broke that Andy Serkis’ film, The Jungle Book: Origins would be pushed back a year. This means that Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book book will be the first out of the gate.

Below you will find the first piece of concept art for Favreau’s upcoming film, pulling one of the iconic shots from the original Disney animated film.

Favreau’s film is set to be a mix of computer-generated animals and a live-action Mowgli, played by Neel Sethi. He’s organized an amazing group of all-stars to lend their voices to the film including, Bill Murray as bear pal Baloo, Scarlett Johansson voicing snake Kaa,Christopher Walken as King Louie the leader of the apes and monkeys, Giancarlo Esposito as Akela the wolf, Ben Kingsley as panther Bagheera, Lupita Nyong’o as wolf mother Rackcha and Idris Elba as lethal tiger Shere Khan.

What do you think? Can Favreau pull off anything half as great as the Mo-Cap king, Andy Serkis? Will his head start pay off in the long run? Will it doom Serkis’ production. Sound off in the comments!
