One of my favorite movies last year was Kingsman: The Secret Service. It had humor, action, drama and was pretty much everything you’d want from the start of a new franchise – including making a new star in Taron Egerton.

The film was so successful that it has director Matthew Vaughn doing something he’s never done before. He’ll be returning to helm the sequel. And with the Summer 2017 release date coming up quick some new details have just dropped.

Empire Magazine managed to get word that the title of the film will be Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Just who or what the Golden Circle comprises has yet to be revealed but a mysterious title like this is a good way to start.

The news outlet also managed to glean some details regarding the plot. Apparently the Kingsman headquarters will be attacked forcing Eggsy (Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) to seek help from their American counterparts The Statesmen, who are led by Jack (who has yet to be cast) and Ginger (Halle Berry)

We already knew about Julianne Moore joining the cast as the villainous Poppy and that the role is so good that Egerton said if he wasn’t already starring that he might have tried out for the antagonist role in this movie.

Matthew Vaughn did talk to Empire about what brought him back and what fans can expect from the newest flick:

I didn’t know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot.

You try not to read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you’ve never seen before.

It’s good to see that Vaughn won’t just pull the same old tricks out of his hat. Of course fans will want another church massacre (it was an amazing sequence) but then he’d get called out on not doing anything original and just rehashing the same old shit.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle will hit theaters June 16, 2017.
