We knew Marvel was doing something huge when they announced the end of their current universe with the upcoming Secret Wars comic book event…but even I couldn’t predict that they’d cancel 33 titles by the end of the mini-series!
ComicBook.com was talking to SVP of Sales and Marketing David Gabriel when the hammer got dropped and fans found out about the end of the (Marvel) world as they know it.
Amongst the cancelled titles are:
All-New Captain America, All-New Ghost Rider, All-New X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man, Amazing X-Men, Angela: Asgard’s Assassin, Avengers, Avengers World, Captain Marvel, Cyclops, Deadpool, Elektra, Fantastic Four, Guardians 3000, Guardians of the Galaxy, Hulk, Inhuman, Iron Fist: The Living Weapon, Legendary Star-Lord, Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man, New Avengers, Nightcrawler, Nova, Rocket Raccoon, Secret Avengers, Spider-Man & The X-Men, Spider-Man 2099, Storm, Superior Iron Man, Thor, Uncanny X-Men, Wolverines and X-Men.
It’s not unheard of for cancelled series to get another shot and get rebooted. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see pretty much all of these titles back in some way, shape or form within a year’s time.
While there are a slew of titles getting trashed, many titles will get to reach a “616 Finale” according to Gabriel. The 616 Universe is the designation for the current Marvel universe that fans have been enjoying for many, many years. Other titles will be changed by the Battleworld mini-series within the Secret Wars mini-series and some titles may take a hiatus for a few months and comes back.
Whatever the case may be, Marvel fans are in for a wild ride when the universe starts to end this May at comic book stores everywhere.
