I’m going to start with a good dose of SPOILER WARNINGS here folks. The good peeps over at Entertainment Weekly have gotten some awesome pics on their newest covers and have dug a little dirt and managed to get some crazy details on the new film in the Terminator franchise Genisys.
Apparently we start off in the year 2029 with the war between man and machine in full swing. John Connor (Jason Clarke) and Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) are pressing the advantage and looking to send Kyle back to 1984 so he can hook up with John’s mom Sarah Connor and ensure that John is born to lead the human resistance. They duo is successful and Reese makes it back to 1984 and the loving arms of Sarah.
But that’s where the story goes sideways. This isn’t the Sarah Connor that we knew and loved played by Linda Hamilton. This new Sarah (Emilia Clarke) is a social hermit with extensive sniper skills. It turns out she’s been totally screwed up in the head because her family died when she was nine years old from a Terminator attack. And on top of being orphaned, she’s been raised by an aging model T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who keeps telling her what her destiny is.
So Terminators wiped out Sarah’s whole family and now she’s denying her destiny, saying she chooses what happens in her life? So how will John be born if she doesn’t do what history says she’s supposed to?
Terminator: Genisys just pulled a Star Trek on us. They keep the old timeline but create a new one. So this is a sequel and a reboot all in one. I like that. It stays true to the original timeline and story, so as not to alienate the older fans while forging its own path for the next generation. I can dig that.
Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor will drop this movie on us on July 3rd 2015.
