Now that filming on The Neon Demon has wrapped up and it heads into post production, director Nicolas Winding Refn is looking towards the future and his next film. While in Los Angeles for an LP release, Refn gave a little interview regarding what he thinks his next film may be.
Collider got the scoop that Refn may be looking to do a spy thriller set in Tokyo called The Avenging Silence. He had the following to say about the main focus of the film:
Yeah, it’s basically a character that appears in my other movies that will now appear again. Having done The Neon Demon, which was predominantly women protagonists, but the character that Mads [Mikkelsen] plays in Valhalla Rising, Ryan [Gosling] plays him in Drive or Vithaya [Pansringarm] in Only God Forgives, I want to make a new movie with that character.
Refn wouldn’t exactly confirm that this is his next project, though. He just hinted at it, saying things like “I think it probably will be. But I haven’t decided yet. There are some other things I’m working on.”
Whatever his next flick is, this is something I need him to work on sooner rather than later. The thought of a character that is reborn in spirit throughout a series of seemingly unconnected films is funky and odd and just the kind of thing Refn could make work.
