Paul Reubens to Take ‘Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday’ on Netflix

The bowtie and highwaters are back!

Paul Reubens and producer Judd Apatow are set to unleash Pee-Wee Herman on Netflix to a whole new generation. And it was just announced that the next film in the franchise will be Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday.

The film will follow Pee-Wee as he has a chance meeting with a stranger and decides to take his first ever holiday. Netflix describes the film as an “epic story of friendship and destiny.”

No release date has been set but it’s been said that production will begin sometime very soon.

Reubens co-wrote the script with former Arrested Development writer Paul Rust. Director John Lee makes his feature-film directorial debut, but he’s no stranger to the big chair, having directed TV shows like Broad City and Inside Amy Schumer.

Pee-Wee Herman was a huge part of my life as a kid. Saturday mornings weren’t complete without Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. And even though I was too young to get it at the time, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure is an all-time favorite. (I didn’t totally hate Big Top Pee-Wee, either…I just choose to gloss over it if I can.)

With Netflix already streaming the aforementioned films and episodes of the TV show, nabbing this movie away from Universal was just the cherry on top of the sundae (or should that be the Mr. T cereal on top of the breakfast plate?).

At 62, Reubens doesn’t look like he’s changed all that much. I’m looking forward to finally seeing Pee-Wee Herman once again don the gray suit and give that signature look of disdain.
