Can you recall a time when hearing the words Catholic Priest didn’t also illicit the words Child Molester? It really wasn’t that long ago that rampant child molestation was still a deep dark secret hidden by the highest ranking members of the Catholic church. It wasn’t until some intrepid editors and reporters from The Boston Globe blew the lid off the whole story that the public became aware of the extent of the churches secrets.

The story was huge, it earned the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for meritorious public service and forever damaged the public’s trust in the Catholic church.

With a story so huge it would only be a matter of time before someone threw it up on a cinema screen. The rights were sold and a film, titled ‘Spotlight’ was announced back in 2010. The film will focus on the reporters, Michael Rezendes, Sacha Pfeiffer, Matt Carroll and their editors, Walter “Robby” Robinson, Ben Bradlee Jr. and Marty. The film seems to be gaining traction, as casting has commenced.

Rachel McAdams has been offered the role of Sacha Pfeiffer already. A slew of talented, big name actors are also circling the project. Michael Keaton is close to signing as editor Walter Robinson as well as  Mark Ruffalo as Michael Rezendous and Liev Schreiber as Ben Bradlee Jr. Aaron Eckhart and Stanley Tucci are also circling the project as well.

The film sounds a lot like the story of crusading journalists Woodward and Bernstein, which is no accident. Editor Ben Bradlee Jr’s father was the legendary Washington Post editor who stood behind Woodward and Bernstein when their Watergate story was attacked by then-president Richard Nixon and the White House staff.
