Gillian Flynn and Steve McQueen Team Up for Heist Thriller!

by: S. Scott Stanikmas

Gillian Flynn worked magic for the big screen when she adapted her book Gone Girl for director David Fincher. The duo made one hell of a film and Flynn was lauded for her writing skills. Now the scribe will be teaming up with Steve McQueen, the man behind the camera for 12 Years a Slave, for an upcoming crime thriller according to Deadline.

The as-yet-untitled heist flick will be based on the 2002 British mini-series Widows. It tells the tale of the wives of a group of armed robbers. After the men are killed in a job that went south, the ladies pick up where their spouses left off to finish what was started.

McQueen will direct the film, with he and Flynn co-writing the script.

I like the sound of this, but I’m also afraid for Gillian Flynn. Even though she’s got a few other projects in the works (including scripting a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train), I don’t want her to get branded as the writer who specializes in “tough / crazy women.”

That being said, this sounds like an interesting idea. There’s no shortage of top notch actresses who would definitely want to attach their name to this, what with the behind the scenes talent already attached. Hopefully this gets put on the fast track and we see some casting news soon.
