Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad has seen a couple trailers released and fans are torn. It’s a project that fans either really love and can’t wait to see or hate and is seen as the death knell of Warner Bros’ DC Cinematic Universe.

But regardless of how we feel, WB thinks the film will be a success and is already moving forward with a sequel. Recently The Wrap spoke with Squad director David Ayer about his next film, Bright which will star Will Smith. Tucked into the article is an interesting little nugget about what to expect from the filmmaker in the future:

Ayer hopes to fit the project into his fall schedule before Warner Bros. brings him and Smith back for a planned Suicide Squad sequel in 2017.

So it looks like we’ll be getting a Suicide Squad sequel, which can be done no matter who survives the first film. The fun part about the Squad in the comics is that it can be any number of low life supervillains that are needed for their particular skill set. This way DC and Warner Bros can mine the vast and varied collection of villains from A-listers all the way down to laughable losers, as long as they can be written well and it makes sense for the story.

Warner Bros hasn’t made any official announcements for a second film. More than likely they’ll wait until the first film either does well with critics in advance screenings or it does good box office on its opening weekend. If it flops they might still go through with it in hopes a second film will catch on…unless it’s a flop of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Venegeance or Fant4stic proportions.

I’m still going to wait to see the first film before I say I want seconds. We’ll see come August whether or not the world wants more of Task Force X and their no-win missions.
