‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ to be R-Rated??

Batman Killing Joke

The DC Animated movies have been skewing a bit more on the racy side as of late. With harsher language and more adult content (Batman: Assault on Arkham had Harley Quinn pretty much riding Deadshot like a pony), Warner Bros knows that while kids may be watching them it’s the older fans that run that market.

But it was still kind of a shock when it was revealed that the future animated project Batman: The Killing Joke could be R-rated.

It was first announced at the Batman: Bad Blood panel at New York Comic Con and then confirmed by the website Polygon. Producer James Tucker said that the powers-that-be have given the nod for the more adult rating, but the crew doesn’t know if they’ll go that route quite yet.

The original material, from writer Alan Moore and artist Brian Bolland, was dark and very adult-themed. An R-rating would give us a pretty faithful adaptation of the source material.

However they go, I’m just excited that we’re getting this – and with Mark Hamill returning to voice the Joker to boot!

Now if we can just get Kevin Conroy to return to voice the Dark Knight…
