I love the concept for ‘The Leftovers’. No it’s a DreamWorks animated film about the exploits of the food left in the refrigerator and it’s journey to be eaten before evil mold grows and renders it an inedible zombie. (hmm I’m gonna put a pin in that one, actually) No, ‘The Leftovers’ is an upcoming HBO show based on the novel of the same name by Tom Perotta. The plot concerns the aftermath of a town after many of their citizens vanish in the Rapture. In the wake of the event that’s called the “Sudden Departure” the world must learn to move on.
It’s a pretty great premise and the first preview relays the seriousness of what happens with the people left behind and how the world can turn inside out in a moment.
The show has some pedigree with Peter Berg and Mimi Leder directing episodes and a cast that includes Liv Tyler, Justin Theroux, Frank Harts and Michael Gaston (Who previously dealt with society crumbling in the criminally underrated ‘Jericho’).
