Vincent D’Onofrio to Play Villain in Dax Shepard’s ‘CHiPS’ Film

After playing a police detective for a decade on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, it looks like Vincent D’Onofrio is making up for lost time by taking in a slew of villain roles. He has an antagonistic role in Jurassic World and just had a career-defining run as Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk on the Marvel / Netflix series Daredevil. Now it looks like the actor will take on another villainous role in the upcoming movie adaptation of CHiPS according to Deadline.

The upcoming incarnation will be written and directed by Dax Shepard, who also plans to star alongside Michael Pena. The duo will play California Highway Patrol officers Jon Baker and Frank “Ponch” Poncerello.

The film will center around an exotic-car theft ring. D’Onofrio will play the leader of the car theft ring who just happens to be a former cop. Warner Bros, the studio producing the film, is looking for something in tone with buddy-cop action films like Lethal Weapon and Bad Boys.

Shepard, who is an experienced motorcycle and race car driver, is planning on doing his own stunts.

This will be Dax Shepard’s first big studio film. The actor previously directed the independent film Hit & Run, which was a pretty funny little flick.
