The last we heard, director Richard Linklater dropped the Jennifer Lawrence vehicle The Rosie Project in favor of doing another pet project that’s been on his list for a couple years. The filmmaker will now be focusing on an adaptation of the 2012 novel Where’d You Go, Bernadette? and he may have found his star.

The Wrap is reporting that Cate Blanchett is in “advanced negotiations” to headline the upcoming film.

Based on the 2012 novel by Maria Semple, Where’d You Go, Bernadette? will be written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the screenwriting duo behind The Rosie Project.

Where’d You Go, Bernadette? is the story of an agoraphobic architect that vanishes before a planned family trip to Antarctica. Her daughter Bee narrates the book as she slogs through a sea of emails, letters and documents to find her mother.

Blanchett is having a banner year, with a stunning turn in Disney’s live-action Cinderella and is garnering rave reviews for her part in the more recent release Truth.

No release date was mentioned, but with Linklater wanting to move on this project soon-ish, I’d expect to hear word of a production start date any day now.
