LIVE-ACTION PRINCE CHARMING FILM IN THE WORKS
In its obsession with taking animated properties and turning them into live-action gold, Disney is now looking to turn Prince Charming into a big screen hit.
Variety reports that the House of Mouse has bought a spec script from Matt Fogel that will be told from the POV of the Prince’s brother, who has always had trouble living up to the legend that is the family name.
Prince Charming has never really been the focus of his own film before, instead opting to swoop in and save the damsel in distress. He’s been seen in many iterations across the Disney animated universe, in films such as Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella as well as more modern (and live-action) fare such as Enchanted and Into The Woods.
But in any case, the character is essentially a blank slate. And this doesn’t even focus on the Prince himself really, so the storytelling possibilities are endless.
With the success of past projects like Maleficent and Cinderella, and the impressive cast already in place for Beauty and the Beast, the Disney trend of turning animated classics into live masterpieces shows no sign of stopping. If Prince Charming proves a success like the others, this could lead Disney into a whole new area – taking bit characters that could have interesting stories to tell and letting creators go wild with them.
