After almost stealing the show in Captain America: Civil War, Chadwick Boseman has me on pins and needles anticipating the solo Black Panther film. King T’Challa was one of the coolest and most badass characters to be introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in quite some time.
Add onto that the fact that superstar director Ryan Coogler is helming this film (and possibly working on the script) and you’ve got a film that I may see a few times in the theater.
But seeing as this particular film is still a little over two years away (!!!) Marvel Studios has time to make sure they get every little detail right and that includes the female lead to star opposite Boseman. But if rumors are to be believed then their choice is a top notch actress already at home in the MCU’s parent company, Disney.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Lupita Nyong’o has entered talks to star as the Black Panther’s love interest in the upcoming superhero film.
Nyong’o is no stranger to Disney’s properties, having starred in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Jungle Book and the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII (although all three of those have been in voice-acting and/or motion capture performances).
Still she is a powerful actress that commands the screen whenever she graces it. If she did choose to participate in the Black Panther film it would give her a chance to show her range and possibly take part in some physical action scenes.
As stated earlier we’ll have to wait a while to see if this pans out. Marvel is in no hurry to rush things and Black Panther is slated to come out February 16, 2018.
