Night Shyamalan has hit a bit of a recent resurgence with his creepy new film The Visit. And now that he’s back on the upswing, production studio Blumhouse is looking to get his next film going. The studio has such confidence in him that they’ve even announced a release date.

The movie, now titled Split, will hit theaters on January 20, 2017. While January and February tend to be where most studios dump their garbage post-Oscar season / pre-Summer Blockbuster season, there have been a few surprises. This year’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, which dropped in February can attest to that.

Originally set to reunite Shyamalan with Joaquin Phoenix, the film will now star James McAvoy. Also announced was Anya Taylor-Joy, Jessica Sula, Betty Buckley and Haley Lu Ruchardson.

While the film has been described as “a suspense thriller with elements of the supernatural” nothing else is known about it at the time. This isn’t unusual for an M. Night Shyamalan film, which could be a blessing or a curse.

In a little over a year we’ll see if The Visit was just a fluke or the start of the second coming of a promising filmmaker.
