It was long expected but today it was made official, Bryan Singer will return to direct X-Men:Apocalypse, the sequel to this summer’s smash hit X-Men Days of Future Past. Singer’s Days of Future Past has grossed $745 million since it’s release this past May.

X-Men: Apocalypse will mark the fourth X-Men film for Singer. He previously directed X-Men, X2: X-Men United, and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

X-Men: Apocalypse will take place in the 80’s, following the events of Days of Future Past. Writer Simon Kinberg had the following to say about Apocalypse to Yahoo (around the 2:55 point), “The X-Men film that we’re working on now as everybody knows is X-Men: Apocalypse and that really follows the stories of the let’s say ‘First Class’ X-Men. Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, many others of that generation of X-Men. So, in future X-Men films? Perhaps, but in ‘Apocalypse’ it will really be the continuation of the ‘past’ of ‘Days of Future Past.”

I loved Days of Future Past and can’t wait to see where they take the story in Apocalypse. It’s amazing how this series managed to rebound after X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Are you as excited for the next X-Men installment?
